August Exposure 2011 Speaker Spotlight - Heather Evans Smith

Speaker Spotlight - Heather Evans Smith

“I want my photographs to tell stories. And I want stories that come from moments of life, like a still from an old movie. Movement and pain and the simple joys of being alive are frozen in time. Only a glance is needed to read the lines between people and find the story.”

Heather Evans Smith’s photographs reveal the magic in the everyday, opening a door to a world where cowgirl princesses and classical guitarists meet in the peculiar light of her imagination. Domestic scenes with a vintage flair give way to the warmth of a wedding Saturday, to images of friendship and new motherhood. Slices of life that might otherwise go unseen take shape through her lens, telling the subject’s story in an unexpected new way.

Smith’s work includes client, exhibition and commercial pieces and has been featured in both solo and joint exhibitions, various magazines, the book “In Her Own Image” and on book covers in the U.S. as well as Europe. Smith resides in North Carolina, USA.

Speaking at August Exposure 2011 on:

Conceptual Photography for You and Your Client
Join Heather as she discusses her progression into conceptual photography and how shooting for you can benefit shooting for others. Heather will also discuss idea boosters to overcome creative blocks, concepting with clients and making time for you.

Speaker Announcement!!!

The lovely Robeccer McLean from Adori Studios

It's funny how mistakes actually shape our success and us as people.

It has been said that "character is what we are unobserved"; confronting your choices and their consequences as a business owner certainly builds character.

Robeccer will show you behind the closed doors and will share the mistakes that came with building a successful business and then making the career defining decision to uproot and move to a cooling and over serviced marketplace.

Hear how Robeccer's recent journey has redefined her brand, her approach, her connections and love for her clients and the industry as a whole.

Australia's top photographic educators all in the same place at the same time!!!

FOUR DAYS OF CONCENTRATED LEARNING WITH SPEAKERS AS THEY TEACH THEIR TECHNIQUES FOR PHOTOGRAPHING AND SELLING.

FROM INEXPERIENCED, NEW PHOTOGRAPHERS TO MASTERS OF THE CRAFT, THESE WORKSHOPS ARE FOR ALL WHO WANT TO TAKE THEIR IMAGES TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND BEYOND.

Wedding and portrait photographers today have to be business people, marketers, PR professionals, bookkeepers, market analysts, innovators, computer experts and of course photographic artists. We have to always update our information and education to stay on top of new products and demands as well as stay in business. We can expect a lifetime of learning to be ahead of us. To own or use a camera does not make a professional photographer.

August Exposure has been created to help wedding and portrait photographers gain experience and lessons from other photographers at all levels of the industry. What better way is there to learn? The speakers have been in business for two years, ten years or more years than they want to count.

The experienced photographers can share their mistakes so you don’t repeat them and their success’s, so you can repeat them. A photographer with ten years experience has come through the hard years and is ready for the next cycle and set of goals. This may be to work smarter, not harder or it could be that they wish to put more effort into growing the business now they have systems in place. A photographer with two years experience is going through a steep learning curve and trying to stay financially viable. This is the hardest stage and is when many photographers go broke or give up. This is not the time to give up, this is the time to look at your business and improve it.

Your photography expertise is part of the business growth. What is your style or do you even have a style? What is your market strength? Should you change what you are doing and if so how? Do you wish to win awards? How can you differentiate from the rest of the photographers? What will our market be looking for in the next few years? What are we going through in the current economic climate?

You are not alone out there as you go through these challenges. We will help you with your portrait creativity and business.

Everyone stands on the shoulders of giants some time in their careers. The speakers at August Exposure have all done this and now they want to pass it on. You will leave the seminars with ideas to move you through the next level of your photography.

The seminar covers photography, marketing and business.

The photography business is a dynamic beast, constantly changing and challenging, so the experienced photographer who stays ahead of the challenges will want to be at this seminar. You can email Rob or myself at the August Exposure address for any queries. Can't wait to see you in person.

ANSWERS TO A FEW FAQ's:
You do not choose between speakers. Each speaker will be featured exclusively and everyone will hear each speaker. ie. All speakers will be in the ballroom and they will speak one at a time.
